Lam Soon’s Antabax Wins the Prestigious Asia Responsible Entrepreneurship Awards 2014

Shah Alam, June XX, 2014 - Antabax, a trusted and innovative antibacterial personal care range under Lam Soon Edible Oils Sdn Bhd was named the winner of the prestigious 2014 Asia Responsible Entrepreneurship Awards (AREA) by Enterprise Asia under the Health Promotion category for its nationwide campaign Antabax National Hand Hygiene Campaign 2013.

The award was presented to the brand in recognition of its efforts in promoting good hand hygiene practices among school children through two major projects – Antabax Nationwide Patty Cake Challenge 2013 and the reality game show, Lat-Tali-Lat.

According to Mr. Francis Ng, General Manager, Household and Personal Care Marketing Division of Lam Soon Edible Oils Sdn Bhd, receiving the AREA award motivates Antabax to continue upholding and cultivating its brand identity that emphasizes hygiene, efficacy, trustworthiness and approachability while providing innovative, high-quality products to its consumers.

“Winning awards is an inspiration and a confidence-booster for us at Lam Soon that encourages us to perform even better, with higher aims in terms of promoting good hygiene practices among Malaysians. Enterprise Asia’s AREA Awards recognizes and honours Asian businesses for championing sustainable and responsible entrepreneurship, and is held in four sub-regions of Asia, namely Southeast Asia, Eastern Asia, South Asia and West Asia.

Mr. Ng, shared that Antabax promotes and encourages the emphasis on forming lifelong good health and hygiene habits through innovative campaigns that include unique elements such as tradition, culture and heritage games.

“Patty Cake and “Lat-Tali-lat” reached out to about 100 schools during the National Hand Hygiene Campaign in 2013, and the reality game show was aired on ASTRO with an average viewership of 2.1million weekly. Both these initiatives have also earned strong support from the Ministry of Health Malaysia and Ministry of Education Malaysia,” said Mr. Ng in closing.

  1. How do you feel about winning the award?
    • We are really excited to win the Gold Award for the Best in Marketing.
    • The excitement was building up from the time we submitted the application form and materials in September. This is the first time Antabax from Lam Soon Edible Oils Sdn Bhd participated in The Star Business Awards.
    • Since The Star Business Awards committee does not share the results prior to the event, this really created a lot of suspense throughout the company as the management also has been looking forward to the announcement of the winners.
    • We want to thank the panel as well as the organizer for giving us this opportunity.
  2. How many entries did you submit and for which categories?
    • We sent in 3 entries, namely, Best in Marketing, Best in Branding and Best in CSR.
  3. Is this your first attempt at The Star Business Awards or did you also enter last year?
    • Our first.
    • The awards have been around for the past 5 years and we really admired the winning brands and companies.
    • With the right campaigns and marketing ideas which were successfully implemented, we took the courage to participate in The Start Business Awards.
  4. Share with us your thoughts on The Star Business Awards, compared to other awards. Why did you take part in The Star Business Awards?
    • After many of the successful campaigns implemented by the brand Antabax, such as National Hygiene Month Campaign, National Patty Cake Competition, Antabax Lat-Tali-Lat Traditional Game Challenge and others, we submitted the applications to further seeking endorsements and recognitions of these initiatives.
    • The experience is truly – ‘Money Can’t Buy’.
    • Winning the Gold Award for Best in Marketing, and we are participating for the first time, really given the company a dose of boast in terms of encouragement to do even better for the brand, company and the community at large.
  5. Would you encourage others to take part in The Star Business Awards? Why?
    • Yes, definitely will. Especially Lam Soon Edible Oils Sdn Bhd is the owner of many successful brands in this region.
    • The participation is also a good experience for any brand as no matter you win or you do not, you get to learn the best, and get to improve the witnesses.
    • The Star Business Awards provides a great platform for the brand owners to test their brands, business whether they are proven in the business methodology.
  6. What have you learned from participating in The Star Business Awards?
    • Firstly, when one thinks they are already the best in the market or category, there are always other stronger players ahead of you.
    • Be humble, stay focus and positive in any sort of environment. The business landscape is ever changing; some time 1 method does not suit everything. Be prepared to innovate and staying ahead of the game.
    • Learn from the best. Observing how the winners achieved where and what they are, learn from their mistakes, and avoid them at all costs.
  7. If you have previously won a SOBA award, how it changed you and your business?
    • This is our first time winning the award, and it is an important recognition from the leading media – Star Publications (M) Bhd, that our efforts are recognized in the industry.
    • We are really proud of this achievement and will continue to do the best and bring the best to the consumer and our stakeholders.
